Statesmen of the Week: Trenton Giese and Claire Rye

Statesmen of the Week: Trenton Giese and Claire Rye

Oskaloosa--Men's shotgun sports athlete Trenton Giese (So., Muskego, Wis., Mechanical Engineering) and women's cross country runner Claire Rye (Fr., Plymouth, Iowa, Biology) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of September 22-28.

Giese topped the High Overall Athlete standings last Friday through Saturday at the William Penn Invitational.  The sophomore, who scored for William Penn in all three disciplines, finished at 283-for-300, including going 98-for-100 in Skeet, 97-for-100 in Trap, and 88-for-100 in Sporting Clays.  His efforts helped WPU to a team title and a sweep of the disciplines.

Rye was William Penn's top harrier last Saturday at the Central Dutch Open.  She completed the 6K course in a time of 24:43.9, placing 18th in the 87-person field.  The performance is the fastest 6K time for a Statesmen this fall.
