Track and Field Athletes Sweep Player of the Month Awards

Oskaloosa--The William Penn University Athletics Booster Club has announced its December Players of the Month.

Men's track and field athlete Xzavion West (Sr., Guthrie, Ky., Psychology) was named the male recipient, while women's track and field athlete Crystal Shaw (Fr., Austin, Texas, Applied Computer Science) earned the female honor.  West is now a three-time winner of the award, while Shaw's honor is her first.

West opened his month by placing high twice at the St. Ambrose Frigid Bee Opener.  The senior won the shot put (49-10.5) and was second in the weight throw (56-7).

He followed that up by placing seventh in the shot put in a deep field at the Iowa Jimmy Grant Alumni Invitational.  His toss of 53-6.25 hit the national-qualifying provisional standard.

Shaw started her collegiate career on fire, beginning with breaking records in the long jump at 18-6.5 and triple jump at 35-8.75 at the St. Ambrose Frigid Bee Opener.  The freshman not only broke the long jump record, but also qualified for nationals with a 'B' standard in the winning jump.  She was second in the triple jump field.

Shaw then improved upon her triple jump record at the Iowa Jimmy Grant Invitational with a runner-up distance of 36-4.
