Statesmen of the Week: Xzavion West and Tatiana Paragas

Oskaloosa--Xzavion West (Sr., Guthrie, Ky., Psychology) and Tatiana Paragas (Fr., Honolulu, Hawaii, Exercise Science) have been named the Statesmen of the Week for the week of January 12-18.

West won two titles at the Central Dutch Athletics Classic last Friday.  The senior took the shot put crown with a toss of 53-1.5, but was even more impressive in the weight throw with a winning distance of 61-2.25.  His weight throw performance not only won the event, but also hit the automatic-qualifying standard.

Paragas won the William Penn Open last Sunday with a perfect 3-0 mark, while outscoring her opponents 31-0.  She opened with a 10-0 technical fall of Madison Rich of Ottawa (Kan.) before defeating Lacey Reed of Iowa Central CC via an 11-0 technical fall.  The freshman capped the day with a 10-0 technical fall of No. 20 nationally-ranked Peyton Hand of Ottawa in the championship match.
