New Records Established as WPU Places in Top 25 in Directors’ Cup
Oskaloosa--The William Penn athletics department used points from 10 separate programs to break records as the final 2025-2026 LEARFIELD Directors' Cup standings were announced Tuesday.
The Statesmen finished 24th with 514 pts for its first-ever top-25 placing; over 250 institutions compete in the NAIA. The navy and gold have now placed in the top 100 for 12 consecutive years (15th time in the last 16 years).
Both the placement and the total points are the best in school history, breaking old records of 46th place and 368.5 points, each from the 2021-2022 campaign.
Of William Penn's 10 scoring squads, women's wrestling headed the grouping with 90 points via its runner-up finish at the NAIA National Championship back in March.
The men's soccer team advanced to the national quarterfinals to earn 73 points, while men's volleyball notched 60 points by winning one match at nationals.
The men's track and field team produced 101 total points, including 55.5 points (18th) in the outdoor season and 45.5 points (25th) in the indoor season.
Men's lacrosse reached the championship semifinals for 55 points, while 45 points came from football's Round of 16 appearance.
Women's bowling managed an eighth-place effort for 42.5 points, men's basketball earned 25 points by getting to the First Round, and men's wrestling added 22.5 points for taking 51st at nationals.
Cumberlands (Ky.) earned the Directors' Cup title with 1,021 points, while Indiana Wesleyan ended up second with 969 points. Keiser (Fla.) (918), Marian (Ind.) (861), and Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (794.75) rounded out the top five.
William Penn placed third within the Heart of America Athletic Conference, while Grand View topped the league with 638.5 points (13th overall).
The Learfield Sports Directors' Cup was developed as a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today. Points are awarded based on each institution's finish in up to 13 sports, four of which must be men's basketball, men's soccer, women's basketball, and women's volleyball. The next nine sports for each institution, regardless of gender, will be used in the standings.
