Quintet Earn Scholar-Athlete Accolades

Oskaloosa--Five members of the William Penn football team were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2023 NAIA Scholar-Athletes Thursday.

Ethan Olivas (Jr., Eddyville, Iowa, Mechanical Engineering) paced the group with a 3.99 Grade Point Average entering this fall.

Cael Crawford (Jr., Mount Vernon, Iowa, Business Management) was next with a 3.75 GPA, while Isaac Knudsen (Grad., Siloam Springs, Ark., Master's of Organizational Leadership) (3.65), Jalen Chappell (So., Hoxie, Ala., Sports Management) (3.64), and Cole Britton (So., Jackson, Mo., Industrial Technology) (3.56) also eclipsed the threshold.

The award is the fourth for Knudsen, while Olivas and Crawford are both two-time honorees.  It is the first laurel in both Chappell's and Britton's careers.

A total of 968 football athletes from within the NAIA were awarded the laurel.

To be eligible for the award, athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, have attended the nominating institution for one full year prior to nomination, and must appear on the sport's eligibility paperwork.
