Statesmen Place in Top Half at Mid States

Wichita, Kan.--The William Penn men's bowling team recorded a top-half finish as it continued its season at the Mid States Championship last Saturday and Sunday.

WPU placed 13th out of 31 teams with 8,562 pins in six regular games and 16 Baker games.  Wichita State (Kan.) paced qualifying with 9,729 pins, while #4 seed Newman (Kan.) claimed the bracket play title.

Josh Hammons of Wichita State headlined all individuals with 1,436 pins for a 239.3 average.

Aidan Piet (So., Meridian, Idaho, Business Management) was William Penn's top bowler, placing 22nd overall with a 206.2 average (1,237 pins).  The sophomore recorded four games in the 200s.

Bryce Keykal (Sr., Princeton, Minn., Applied Mathematics) also started all six rounds and averaged 191.5 pins.

Over the span of five games, Landon Piet (Fr., Meridian, Idaho, Biology) averaged 195.8 pins, while Noah Kidwell (So., Bettendorf, Iowa, Secondary Education) finished with a 196.3 average in three rounds.

Brock Alderson (Fr., Sigourney, Iowa, Biology), at 168.0, and Joseph Woods-Weisman (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn., New Media), at 149.3, matched Kidwell by competing in three games.

Connor Rissi (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Psychology) owned a 174.5 average in his two starts, and Conor Fetherston (Jr., Dublin, Ireland, Software Engineering) rounded out the lineup with a 140.5 average in two games.

"This was a tough weekend," Head Coach Cameron Foster said.  "We could not get in a good rhythm, but the guys fought hard and never gave up, which helped us climb the ladder and finish in the middle of the pack.  We still have lots of positives to take away though.  We will build from this as we prepare for our next event."

Next Up: William Penn takes a couple weeks off before returning to action with a trip to Rockford, Ill. on Saturday and Sunday, November 9-10 to compete in the ISYL Leatherneck Classic.
