Keykal Advances to Nationals, Team Wraps Up Season at Sectionals

Fort Worth, Texas--The William Penn men's bowling team saw its season come to an end last weekend, but it still has individual representation at nationals as it competed at USBC Sectionals Friday through Sunday.

Bryce Keykal (Sr., Princeton, Minn., Secondary Education) eclipsed 200 pins in each of six games (high of 254) at the Singles event to place fifth overall with 1,394 pins.

His average of 232.3 pins helps him become the sixth bowler in program history (first since 2022-2023) to advance to the USBC Singles Nationals from April 14-19 in Las Vegas, Nev.  A total of 24 individuals from the four sectionals around the country will converge on Las Vegas in hopes of claiming the national title.

Aidan Piet (So., Meridian, Idaho, Business Management) was next with 1,326 pins (221.0 average), while Connor Rissi (Sr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Psychology) knocked down 1,183 pins (197.2 average).

Conor Fetherston (Jr., Dublin, Ireland, Software Engineering), at 194.8 (1,169 pins), and Brock Alderson (Fr., Sigourney, Iowa, Biology), at 170.0 (1,020), also competed at Sectionals.

The two days that followed consisted of the Statesmen bowling 64 Baker games in the Team Sectionals event.  They knocked down 12,086 pins to finish 15th out of 19 squads; the top four teams advanced to nationals in April.

WPU was a respectable 10th after the first 16 games, but could not keep pace with the leaders.

"Our season did not end the way we would have liked, but so many positives have come from the last few tournaments, so many things to build from to get better and stronger," Head Coach Cameron Foster said.  "We have a lot of good pieces returning to make us a program to watch out for going forward."

"We lose a few seniors this year and they will be missed, but we are happy that one of our leaders, Bryce Keykal, gets one last hoorah at USBC Singles where he will face 23 other top college athletes," Foster added.
