Statesmen Start Campaign at Five Seasons Classic
Cedar Rapids--The William Penn men's bowling team placed just outside of the top five as it opened its 2025-2026 season at the Five Seasons Classic Saturday and Sunday.
WPU finished sixth out of 16 teams with a final tally of 8,418 pins in five regular games and 20 Baker games. St. Ambrose claimed the crown with 9,804 pins, while host Mount Mercy was second at 9,539.
Kendrick Siders of St. Ambrose was the top individual during the weekend, posting a 251.8 average (1,259 pins), while Aidan Piet (Jr., Meridian, Idaho, Business Management) guided the navy and gold with a 205.6 clip (1,028 pins) over the span of five rounds to place 16th overall.
Ethan Licht (So., Victor, Iowa, Sports Management) was in the top 25 as well, finishing 25th with a 198.0 average.
Gavin Unger (Fr., Columbus, Neb., Engineering Technology) flourished in his collegiate debut, knocking down 186.6 pins per game over five rounds, while Carter Boley (Sr., Grimes, Iowa, Exercise Science) also started all five games with a 180.0 mark.
Ethan Zieglowsky (Sr., Washington, Iowa, Biology) averaged 180.3 pins in three games, and Brock Alderson (So., Sigourney, Iowa, Biology) wrapped up the varsity crew with a 158.5 average in two rounds.
The Statesmen put a reserve squad on the lanes as well, and the group placed seventh with 7,606 pins. Aidan Majer (So., Yorkville, Ill., General Accounting) headlined the second crew with a 177.2 pins.
"Our team looks a little different this year, but we handled the changes really well," Head Coach Kirstin Foster said. "Our athletes showed great teamwork and handled their various challenges well. We are taking this week to work on a couple of different things, but overall I was impressed with our guys."
Next Up: William Penn travels to Rockford, Ill. Saturday and Sunday to compete in the ISYL Leatherneck Classic.
