Statesmen Place Eighth at Heart Championship

Moravia--The William Penn men's golf team improved each round as it finished its season at the Heart of America Athletic Conference Championship Monday and Tuesday.

The Statesmen placed eighth out of 12 teams with a three-round score of 886 (304-294-288) at The Preserve Golf Course--a par-72 track.

Park claimed the team crown at 15-under-par 849 (284-287-278), nipping Missouri Valley by one stroke.  Missouri Valley's Mateo Quiroga will join Park in the NAIA National Championship field as he won the individual title at 15-under 201 (66-69-66).

Spencer Tucker (Sr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sports Management) completed his incredible career with two rounds under par as he tied for 12th at 215 (75-71-69).

Bailey Johnston (So., Hastings, Minn., Business Management) also bettered his score each time out, tying for 31st at 223 (78-74-71), while Cameron Johnson (Sr., Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, Business Management) was next, tying for 38th at 226 (75-76-75).

Austin Hafner (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sports Management) started slow with a first-round 84, but bounced back with a pair of 73s to tie for 45th at 230.  Jonathan Jarvis (Sr., Burlington, Iowa, Business Management) rounded out WPU's scoring as he tied Hafner in 45th place at 230 (76-79-75).

"I am really happy with our performance this week and proud of our team," Head Coach Elise Warne said.  "Everyone contributed as we posted the second-best 54-hole team score in program history.  Throughout the season, our players have been working and refining their individual games.  When it came to the biggest tournament of the year, they were able to perform at a high level."

"Our seniors Spencer and Cameron went out on high notes," Warne added.  "I personally want to thank them for their commitment to the program and how they handled themselves on and off the course.  They will forever be Statesmen."
