Statesmen Place Sixth at Heart Preview to Finish Fall
Smithville, Mo.--The William Penn men's golf team was in Missouri on Monday and Tuesday as it battled at the Heart Preview and finished off the fall campaign against Heart of America Conference foes.
The Statesmen finished sixth out of 10 teams with a two-round score of 639 (314-325) at the par-72 Paradise Pointe Golf Club.
Missouri Valley took first at 587 (294-293), while Felipe Suarez of the Vikings topped the 49-golfer field with a score of 134 (68-66)
Mario Palain (Fr., Zaragoza, Spain, Business Management) led the way for William Penn, tying for 14th overall with a score of 156 (77-79). Palain did particularly well on hole 13, birdieing both days.
Next for the Statesmen was Alvaro Rodriguez (So., Gijon, Spain, Business Management), who placed 18th and then Archie Branks (Fr., Sydney, Australia, Sports Management), who tied for 25th. Rodriguez did so after shooting a 158 (77-83), while Branks scored a 162 (77-85).
Tying for 32nd was Samuel Arnaud (Fr., Saint-Maur-des-Fosses, France, Biology), who posted an 86 on Monday and an 80 in the second round for a total of 166.
Tyler Pedretti (So., Upland, Calif., Business Management) rounded out the lineup for William Penn after scoring 171 (83-88).
"Tough conditions over 2 days for both the men and women." Head Coach Darin Fisher said. "We had some opportunities on day 1 but we continue to dig ourselves into a hole with unforced errors. When we have a chance to gain shots on the field we need to capitalize. We just didn't get it done. We will learn from this and work hard this offseason."
Next Up: William Penn is off until the spring season.
