West Collects Third-Straight Field Athlete of the Meet Award, Bvekerwa Honored as ACOY
Oskaloosa--Xzavion West (Sr., Guthrie, Ky., Psychology) and Assistant Coach Zuva Bvekerwa represented the Statesmen well as the Heart of America Athletic Conference announced its top men's outdoor track and field awards and all-league honorees Monday, presented by Athletic Solutions.
West was named Heart Field Athlete of the Week, taking the title for the third time (three straight championships) in his career. He claimed the Most Points Scored award (30 total) at last week's Heart Championship by winning the hammer throw (203-5), the shot put (53-0.25), and the discus (150-4).
Bvekerwa matched West by also collecting his third career Heart award as Assistant Coach of the Year. He guided six athletes and a relay team to some form of all-Heart recognition, including one champion in Koby Higginbotham (Fr., Knoxville, Iowa, Exercise Science) (110-meter hurdles).
Isaac Lawson of Central Methodist was named Heart Track Athlete of the Meet, while Jacob Connealy of Benedictine earned the Coach of the Year laurel.
