William Penn Knocked Off by Old Rival in Final Dual Meet in PAC

William Penn Knocked Off by Old Rival in Final Dual Meet in PAC

Oskaloosa--The Statesmen men's wrestling team had its final hurrah in the Penn Activity Center end with disappointment as it fell to Central 34-11 in a non-conference dual meet Tuesday.

WPU (4-11), which will return to its old stomping grounds of Penn Gymnasium on Thursday, was defeated in six of Tuesday's nine contested bouts.  William Penn has competed in the PAC the last four seasons, but will be back in Penn Gym for good starting on Senior Night and will enjoy a new light show system recently installed by Oskaloosa's own Musco Lighting.  While they are switching venues for dual meets, the Statesmen will continue to host tournaments in the PAC.

The hosts fell behind 6-0 after Tuesday's opening match, but Lane Scorpil (So., Columbus Junction, Iowa, Industrial Technology) cut into that deficit at 133 pounds by dominating David Vukobratovich by an 18-5 major decision.

The next two weights went in favor of the Dutch (11-3), but the Statesmen righted the ship at 157 pounds as Kael Bunce (Sr., Stockbridge, Mich., Mechanical Engineering), who received a significant cut to his head and nearly had to forfeit, held off Duncan Delzell 8-2.

165-pounder Cameron Hargrove (Jr., Bolingbrook, Ill., Sports Management) then rolled past Jason Hermann in a 16-5 major decision to get the navy and gold within five at 16-11.

Unfortunately, the remainder of the evening belonged to the visitors as they claimed the final four bouts.  Seven of the nine battles were lopsided affairs with the victor taking it by bonus points.

Next Up: William Penn remains in Oskaloosa Thursday to host Benedictine (6 p.m.) and Grand View (approximately 7:30 p.m.) in a pair of Heart dual meets.  Once again, the meets will be held in Penn Gymnasium.
