WPU Falls on Senior Night
Oskaloosa-- The Statesmen men's wrestling team fell 29–13 to Benedictine in a Heart of America Athletic Conference dual on Thursday.
The night also served as Senior Night, as the program honored Lane Scorpil (Sr., Columbus Junction, Iowa, Business Management), Jeffery Myers (Sr., Yelm, Wash., Wellness and Recreation), Trent Evans (Jr., Houston, Texas, Mechanical Engineering), and Kaleb Loving (Jr., Aledo, Ill., Secondary Education).
The Statesmen (1-7, 0-7 Heart) jumped out to an 8–0 lead as 125-pounder Gentry Walston (So., New Sharon, Iowa, Human Resources) earned a 16–9 decision, followed by 133-pounder Myers securing a pinfall at 6:51. Myers was assessed a team point deduction for his celebration following the win.
The Ravens (7-3, 1-3 Heart) would cut the lead to 8-4 after getting a major decision victory at 141-pounds.
No. 13 Brody Brisker (Fr., Wilton, Iowa, Sports Management) extended the WPU advantage to nine with a technical fall.
From that point on, Benedictine took control, stringing together six straight victories to secure the 29–13 conference win.
