Brisker Wins Twice, Scorpil Once at NAIA Nationals

Oskaloosa--Brody Brisker (Fr., Wilton, Iowa, Sports Management) and Lane Scorpil (Sr., Columbus Junction, Iowa, Business Management) finished their 2025-2026 campaigns by competing in several matches apiece at the 69th Annual NAIA Men's Wrestling National Championship Thursday and Friday.

Brisker had the longer run, reaching the third round of the consolation bracket with a 2-2 record.  After dropping his first bout, the 149-pounder bounced back with two consecutive victories.  The freshman first defeated Cade White of Providence (Mont.) 10-5, and then upset No. 13 seed Ty Lehman of Cumberlands (Ky.) 14-8.

Unfortunately, Brisker was eliminated by another seeded wrestler, ending his freshman campaign with a 22-10 overall record.

Scorpil, who was the No. 15 seed at 133 pounds, started his third nationals trip on an ominous note with a loss.  He fought back, though, rallying with a last-second reversal to win 15-14 over Graceland's Davion Wilson.

The senior's week unfortunately ended in the second consolation round, wrapping up his collegiate career with an 8-6 record this winter.

As a team, William Penn tied for 51st with 1.5 points.

"What makes Lane's performance impressive is that he competed through injuries that have been bothering him throughout the season, and refused to make excuses," Head Coach Drew Sams said.  "He showed the kind of toughness and commitment that has defined his career.  Lane has been a great representative of our program throughout his time here and is the embodiment of a Statesmen wrestler."

"As a freshman, getting on the national stage and picking up two wins is a great experience and something Brody can build on moving forward," Sams added.  "He is knocking on the door and will almost certainly be back at this tournament and bring home some hardware for us in the future."

"While the results were not exactly what we came here for, both guys represented our program the right way and competed with a lot of heart," Sams concluded.  "Experiences like this are part of the process, and we are confident the lessons learned here will help continue to push our program forward."
