WPU Places Seventh at TPC Deere Run

Silvis, Ill.--The William Penn women's golf team got back to swinging the sticks Monday and Tuesday as it hosted the TPC Deere Run Invitational.

The Statesmen placed seventh out of 13 teams with a three-round score of 1,021 (353-337-331) at the par-72 TPC Deere Run Golf Course.  #19 SCAD Atlanta (Ga.) won the event at 944 (312-323-309).

Sidney Parmer of Marian (ind.) topped the 69-player field at 227 (73-82-72), while Gabriana Franco (So., Tracy, Calif., Exercise Science) was WPU's top linkster, tying for 20th at 252 (92-80-80).

Olivia Lange (Jr., Buckeburg, Germany, Business Management) was just one stroke back of Franco at 253 (88-83-82) to tie for 23rd.  Carlee Frayne (Sr., Garner, Iowa, Sport Management) was then next at 259 (87-91-81) to tie for 29th.

Emma Lawson (Jr., Rossville, Ind., Exercise Science), in a tie for 34th at 262 (86-83-93), and Riley Burns (Jr., Edwardsville, Ill., Elementary Education), in 50th at 276 (92-96-88), wrapped up the varsity scoring.

Olivia Cramer (Jr., Lawton, Mich., Civil Engineering) also competed as an individual, finishing in a tie for 51st at 278 (92-90-96).

"We always look forward to hosting this tournament; TPC Deere Run is a fantastic venue and it was in immaculate condition," Head Coach Elise Warne said.  "There is a reason they play this course on the PGA Tour.  It favors excellent ball-striking and punishes you if you are a little bit off.  While the scores were not where we wanted to be, I was proud of how our players handled themselves through adversity.  We took a lot of learnings from this event that will pay off in the future."

Next Up: William Penn closes out the fall next Monday and Tuesday by hosting the Heart Preview.  Play will be contested at The Preserve Golf Course.
