WPU Drops 1-0 Battle with Iowa Wesleyan

Mediapolis--The Statesmen women's soccer team challenged the Tigers with multiple shot attempts, but could not get one on the board as it fell 1-0 to Iowa Wesleyan in non-conference play Tuesday.

William Penn (2-9-1, 2-5-1 Heart) was outshot 20-10 by Iowa Wesleyan (7-5-0, 1-0), while slightly losing the shots on goal battle 10-8.

Iowa Wesleyan recorded the contest's lone goal in the 11th minute, holding that margin the rest of the game. The Statesmen produced plenty of chances as the match wore on, but could not tally the equalizer.

Lilly Cote (Fr., Sioux City, Iowa, Undecided) led the pace for the offense with four shots, while Mia Ammons (Fr., Black Diamond, Wash., Business Management) and Lacie Kirkle (So., Altoona, Iowa, Undecided) tallied two of their own.

The Tigers produced 10 shots (five on goal) in the second half, but none snuck past Madeline Danielson (So., La Crescent, Minn., Exercise Science). The sophomore finished the evening with nine saves.

"This was another tough close loss tonight," Head Coach Andy Commins said. "We have a week off to get some girls healthy before we have a run of very important conference games."
