WPU Posts Strong Results in Back-to-Back Meets

Des Moines/Grinnell--The Statesmen women's track and field team had a busy weekend, competing in the Drake Jim Duncan Invitational Friday before heading to the Grinnell Dick Young Invitational Saturday.

At Drake

Lilly Ostert (So., Madrid, Iowa, Exercise Science) led the charge in Des Moines, placing third in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.53 seconds. De'Avae Adderley (Jr., Nassau, Bahamas, Engineering Technology) also impressed, finishing sixth with a time of 12.63.

At Grinnell

Ostert continued her strong weekend with a second-place finish in the 100, clocking in at 12.52 seconds. She was closely followed by Ellasa Horton (So., Waterloo, Iowa, Human Services), who placed third at 12.81. Allison Read (Sr., Austin, Texas, Exercise Science) rounded out the top 10 with a ninth-place finish in 13.35.

In the 200-meter dash, freshmen Ellysse Johns (Fr., Houston, Texas) and Aaliyah Lopez (Fr., El Paso, Texas) earned podium finishes, placing third (28.66) and fifth (29.64), respectively.

In the field events, Phoebe Burt (Sr., Iowa City, Iowa, Sociology) placed sixth in the discus with a throw of 116-6 and claimed 11th in the shot put with a mark of 35-8.5. Miracle Crawford-George (Jr., Canyon Springs, Calif., Kinesiology) took eighth in the hammer throw with a toss of 127-10 and placed 10th in the shot put (35-8.75).

"Our women have been having a really solid outdoor season," said Head Coach Victoria Vinokur. "They've consistently been putting up good numbers and personal bests, even while managing some nagging injuries. It's great to see this kind of progress after a tough indoor season."

Next Up: William Penn will travel to Cedar Rapids on Saturday to compete in the Mount Mercy DeBacker Invitational.
