WPU Falls to Ranked Eagles in Road Matchup

Fayette, Mo.--The Statesmen women's volleyball team closed out a forgettable weekend with a 3-0 Heart of America Athletic Conference setback to #20 Central Methodist Saturday.

William Penn (7-9, 1-1 Heart) lost by scores of 15-25, 14-25, 14-25 and was outhit .376-.111.

The navy and gold, who hit a respectable .185 in the opening set, pulled out to a 4-2 lead, but then allowed eight unanswered by the Eagles (8-5, 2-1 Heart), who posted a .333 attacking mark in the first go-round.  Central Methodist rolled to the early 1-0 edge.

After struggling throughout in the second set, WPU once again got out to a solid start in the third.  The visitors were up by two points a few times and continued to be in the lead at 9-8.  Unfortunately, CMU produced a mini run and the Statesmen never challenged again.

Andressa Borges (Jr., Sao Paulo, Brazil, Sports Management) added five winners, while Mia Brady (So., Pontiac, Ill., Exercise Science) assisted on 11 kills.

William Penn lost the blocks battle 10-2 and the aces matchup 6-2.
