Statesmen Fall to Park in Three

Parkville, Mo.-- The William Penn women's volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision on the road to Park in Heart of America Athletic Conference play Saturday.

The Statesmen (14-15, 4-10 Heart) lost by scores of 17-25, 12-25, 14-25, while being outhit .254-.016 by the Pirates (11-6, 7-3 Heart).

WPU opened the first set with a 3-0 lead, but Park quickly responded with an 8-0 run of its own. From there, Park never looked back, securing a 25-17 victory in the opening set.

The Pirates carried their momentum into the second set, jumping out to a quick 5-0 lead. Abigail Mitchell (Jr., Oxford, Ala., Nursing) tried to swing things back in WPU's favor with a run-ending kill, but Park picked up right where they left off, taking set two 25-12.

Set three followed a similar pattern, as the Statesmen struck first before Park responded with a 4-0 run. From there, the set remained close until Park pulled away with an 8-2 run to take control and close out the match in three straight sets.

Mitchell led the team with six kills, while Khiani Jackson (Sr., St. Joseph, Mo., Psychology), Joceline Martinez (Sr., Orange County, Calif., Psychology), and Emilie Bojorquez-McFadden (Jr., Surprise, Ariz., Biology) each added five.
