Palumbo Garners Heart Wrestler of the Week Laurel in Mat Return

Oskaloosa--Mia Palumbo (Grad., Oak Lawn, Ill., Master's of Sports Management) returned to the collegiate arena with a statement weekend as she was named the Heart of America Athletic Conference Women's Wrestler of the Week Monday, presented by Musco Lighting.

Palumbo earned her third weekly award (first of the year) when she finished 3-1 at the NWCA National Duals last Friday and Saturday.

The graduate student, who has not competed collegiately since the 2023-2024 campaign, opened her weekend with a 10-0 technical fall over Addison Rudolph of Campbellsville (Ky.).  She then pinned Lindsey Wilson's (Ky.) Callie Payton in 1:02.  Payton is ranked No. 9 in the NAIA.

Palumbo, who was actually wrestling up a weight class at the Duals, came up short against the No. 2 wrestler in the nation, but then finished off her successful return with an 11-0 technical fall over No. 3 Mayangelie Colon of Grand View.

The award is the third of the year for William Penn.
