Seven Garner Scholar-Athlete Awards
Oskaloosa--A total of seven Statesmen baseball players were honored for their excellence in the classroom as they were named 2026 Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes.
Keoni Young (Sr., Las Vegas, Nev., Exercise Science) leads the crew with a 3.85 Grade Point Average.
Hayden Vandenberg (Jr., West Burlington, Iowa, Physical Education) is next at 3.80, while Moise Cordero (Jr., Burlington, Iowa, Biology) holds a 3.73.
Adrian Ayala (Jr., Omaha, Neb., Exercise Science) (3.66), Aiden North (Jr., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Industrial Technology) (3.63), Abraham Arroyo (Grad., Camuy, P.R., Master's of Sports Management) (3.51), and Jackson Shafer (So., Oskaloosa, Iowa, Sports Management) (3.50) also met the criteria.
Cordero, North, and Vandenberg are all now two-time honorees, while Arroyo, Ayala, Shafer, and Young are receiving their first awards.
To be eligible for the award, athletes must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or above on a 4.0 scale, have attended the nominating institution for one full year prior to nomination, and must appear on the sport's eligibility paperwork.
