William Penn Ends on the Wrong Side of Heart Game of the Week

Oskaloosa--The No. 8 William Penn men's soccer team came up short against No. 2 MidAmerica Nazarene, falling 4–1 in a highly anticipated Heart of America Athletic Conference Game of the Week Saturday.

The Statesmen (7-3-4, 5-2-3 Heart) generated more chances with a 10–8 advantage in total shots but were outperformed in efficiency, trailing 6–4 in shots on target against the Pioneers (10-1-3, 7-1-2 Heart).

MidAmerica Nazarene struck first in the 10th minute, but William Penn answered quickly. Just over two minutes later, Albert Feixas (So., Santa Coloma de Farners, Spain, Exercise Science) buried a pass from Gabriel Amara (Fr., Abbeville, France, Business Management) to even the score.

The Pioneers regained the lead in the 30th minute and entered halftime ahead, holding a 5–3 edge in shots.

MNU carried that momentum into the second half, tacking on two more goals to secure the victory.

Despite holding a 7–3 shot advantage after the break, the Statesmen were unable to find the back of the net again.

Feixas led the attack with three shots, while John-Joe Mullane (Sr., Kent, England, Sports Management) added two attempts.

"Disappointed is the main word for this game and the past two," said Head Coach Joe Minton. "We have to give a very good MNU team their flowers, but they were ultimately more efficient than us when it came to converting goal-scoring opportunities."

Minton added, "The season is slowly slipping away, and we need to get a hold of it again."
